Whose book is it?

If you have two children, you’ll know what can happen when a book is all about just one of them. One gets to be the hero while the other sits beside them watching someone else’s adventure. There are two good ways to make a story for siblings, and the best choice depends on their ages and how they like to play together.

One story, two heroes

Give both children a starring role when you make the book, and the story will be written around them both. This works especially well for siblings close in age, or children who are already a team: twins who always build dens together, or a big sister who reads to her little brother. Tell us what each child is good at, so they both have something of their own to do. Choose an adventure where they need each other, such as a treasure hunt or knights and dragons. Our example story, Ella and the Northern Lights, follows Ella, her big brother Oliver and Grandpa James on a night train to the mountains.

Siblings: a gift that lasts

A book each, with the same characters

When there’s a big age gap, or both children want a book of their own, a separate story for each is often best. Each child gets to be the hero of their own book, with their sibling alongside them, and nobody has to wait their turn on Christmas morning. Make the first book with all the siblings included. Once it’s ready, you can create another in one click, with the next sibling as the hero and the same characters, photos and illustration style. There’s no need to upload anything again, and the text is written for the child starring in each book. Two hardcovers in the same order qualify for free delivery, and every third hardcover is half price; see prices.

Christmas gifts for siblings

A book for each child under the tree, with the same characters in both, makes a lovely gift. Children can compare their stories, read each other’s books and see themselves as both the hero and part of their sibling’s adventure. Order hardcovers by 29 November. eBooks are ready a few minutes after payment, even if you’re ordering on Christmas morning.

Expecting your second child?

We have a page about books for soon-to-be big siblings and a guide to welcoming a new sibling. For ideas on including several children in one story without anyone feeling left out, read our post about siblings in the same book.

Remind me before the birthday

Not quite yet? We e-mail you two to three weeks before the child's birthday, in time for a printed book. Once a year, nothing else.

You turn the reminder on in the e-mail we send. We keep only the address and the date, see the privacy policy.

Questions about the gift: Siblings

A book can have up to five characters, including people and animals. There’s plenty of room for two or three siblings; with more, the illustrations can get crowded.

Yes. Give both a starring role when you add them, and the story will be written around them both.

Yes. Make the first book with all the siblings included. Once it’s ready, you can create another in one click with a different sibling as the hero, without uploading the photos again.

The text is written for one age group. Choose the youngest child’s age if you’ll be reading together, or make a book for each child so each story is written for its hero.
