Why the theme Our trip makes a good book
An adventure that suits the child
A trip comes to an end, but the memory doesn't have to fade. In a book about your trip your child is the hero, and everything you really did is kept: the place, the people who came, the food you had never tasted and the thing that went wrong but was funny afterwards. The book tells what happened, no made-up adventure, so your child knows their own trip on every page and wants to hear it again on a grey evening in February.
The book tells what really happened
An ordinary storybook makes up its plot. This one does the opposite: you tell it about the trip, and the book keeps to that. No dragons or treasure maps, and nobody gets lost unless they did. Whatever went wrong on the trip, a lost sandal or a rainy day, becomes the book's turning point, told with warmth and a little humour.
The place is drawn as it looks. Write Crete, the Lake District or Grandma's caravan by the sea and the real details come with it, the harbour, the fells or the little caravan with its striped awning, so that you recognise yourselves in the pictures.
Write what makes it your trip
A few lines are enough: where you went and when, how you got there, who came along, two or three moments you remember, something that went wrong and what your child liked best of all. Let your child help decide what goes in.
Everyone who came can be in the book, each with their own photo, so that Grandma looks like Grandma on every page. And if the dog stayed at home with the neighbours, it can still get a postcard in the book.
After the trip, or before it
This book is made after the trip, as a keepsake. If you are about to go away and want to get your child ready for it, a book about the holiday suits better: there the trip becomes an adventure before it has happened.
A book about the summer's trip also makes a lovely Christmas present for the grandparents who came along, or for your child when summer feels a long way off.
Your child is the hero
You fill in the child's name, age and what they like, and upload a photo. The story about your trip is written for your very own child, and the thirteen pictures and the cover are drawn from the photo in the style you choose. Brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents or the pet can come along, up to five characters. If you would like to include something that has happened lately, a trip or a lost tooth, just write it and it is woven in.

How the story could begin
Do you remember the morning you left? It was dark outside and the bags stood packed in the hall, with your own rucksack on top. Then came the road, or the plane, or the train, and an eternity later you were there. The air smelled different and everything was new. Now it is all in a book: the first swim, the rain that wouldn't stop and the very best moment of all. You are on every page.
