Why the theme A new baby makes a good book
An adventure that suits the child
When a baby comes home, the rhythm of the whole family changes. The nights get shorter, the visitors more frequent, and suddenly there is a tiny person everyone talks quietly around. This book is the baby's own: a welcome book about how the family waited and welcomed them, the first weeks with the family's faces all around, to read aloud long before the words mean anything. If your child is already older, it becomes the story of when they were born and came home.
Who is the book about?
The baby is the main character: the waiting, the day the baby arrived, the first days at home, the first bath, the first walk in the stroller, everyone who comes to say hello. It becomes a welcome book the family can read aloud straight away and that your child can leaf through later to see how it all began. A child who has already grown can have the same book afterwards, as the story of when they were born.
If the book is about an older child getting a brother or sister instead, choose the Big brother or sister theme. There the older child is at the center, gets to hold the baby and discovers that there is still room on a lap. If you would like to give the book to a newborn, there is more under newborns and christenings.
Details from the first weeks
Put in what you want to remember: the name and why you chose it, the date, who held the baby first, a song that always settled them. If the baby joined the family through adoption, arrived to a single parent or to two moms or two dads, write it the way you talk about it at home. The book follows your story, not a template.
Small things become big memories over time: how the baby lay in someone's arms, which song was sung at bedtime, who changed the first diaper and laughed. Brothers and sisters, grandparents and the family pet all have room in the pictures, so that later on the baby can see who was waiting for them.
Reading to someone who doesn't know words yet
A newborn cannot follow the plot, but hears the voice, the rhythm and the calm of whoever is reading. That is why short, repeated sentences work best when the book is about the baby.
If the baby is already older when the book is read, it becomes a memory instead: a three- or four-year-old loves to hear what it was like when they were tiny themselves, who held them first and what everyone said. Keep a copy for the day the baby can point at the pictures themselves.
Your child is the hero
You fill in the child's name, age and what they like, and upload a photo. The story about a new baby in the family is written for your very own child, and the thirteen pictures and the cover are drawn from the photo in the style you choose. Brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents or the pet can come along, up to five characters. If you would like to include something that has happened lately, a trip or a lost tooth, just write it and it is woven in.

How the story could begin
You are only a few days old, and everything is new. The light from the window is white and soft. Someone has wrapped you in a blanket that smells of washing powder and milk, and you can hear a heart beating close to your ear. All around you they whisper: “Look at those fingers.” “That tiny nose.” “The baby sneezed!” The whole family has squeezed into the little room, and everyone wants a look. But someone has not made it to the front. Right at the back, by the door, stands someone with a package in their arms who does not dare come any closer. The package is wrapped in newspaper and has a wonky bow. When your eyes manage, for the very first time, to find something to look at, it is that package. And whoever is holding it slowly begins to smile.
