Why the theme Our day out makes a good book
An adventure that suits the child
A day out is a little trip in a single day: the packed lunch, the path, a snack on a rock and the way home on tired legs. These are the days children remember. In a book about your day out your child is the hero and everything is as it was, the place and the people who came, what you saw and what you laughed at, so the day stays long after the mud has dried on the wellies.
What goes in the book?
Write where you walked or drove, who came along and what you did: a barbecue on a fire pit, looking for mushrooms, a swim in a cold lake, sledging or a visit to a museum. Put in the small things too, what was in the picnic or the animal you spotted. The book keeps to what happened and makes up nothing you weren't there for.
A day in the forest or at the beach can also become a made-up adventure. If you would rather have that, choose those themes instead.
A book to read again and again
Children want to hear the same story many times, and most of all the one they are in. When the book is about a day you really had, every reading is a little trip back: your child points at the path, remembers how cold the water was and tells you what happened next. The grown-up reading aloud gets the day back too.
The pictures are drawn from your photos, in the style you choose, so it is your child walking first along the path. The place is drawn as it looks, with the lake, the hill or the park you were in, and the people who came are in the pictures. The book becomes a keepsake for the bookshelf, or a present for whoever was there that day.
It doesn't have to be a big day. Often it is the simple days out that children talk about longest: the sausage that got burnt, the frog by the water or the drive home when someone fell asleep in the car.
Your child is the hero
You fill in the child's name, age and what they like, and upload a photo. The story about your day out is written for your very own child, and the thirteen pictures and the cover are drawn from the photo in the style you choose. Brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents or the pet can come along, up to five characters. If you would like to include something that has happened lately, a trip or a lost tooth, just write it and it is woven in.

How the story could begin
It was one of those days when you just set off. Someone packed sausages and squash, someone else found the map. The path went through the woods and down to the water, and there, right there, happened the thing you still talk about. Now it is in a book, with you first on the path.
